Jill Fleisher, Business Development Manager at ALTA IT Services

Meet Jill Fleisher, an exceptional Business Development Manager at ALTA IT Services’ Rockville Office.  With an impressive 23-year tenure at ALTA IT, Jill has been a key contributor to our success. Her mantra: “Enjoy the little things, for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.” Jill’s favorite part about working at ALTA IT Services? “The people!” We recently sat down with Jill to learn more about her career as a Business Development Manager and to gather her tips for anyone interested in this rewarding career path.

What Does a Business Development Manager Do?

As a BDM, you’re the engine that drives a company’s growth. You’ll identify new clients and business opportunities, develop winning sales strategies, and build strong relationships with both clients and partners. It’s a dynamic role that combines strategic thinking, networking, and a touch of creativity – perfect for those who enjoy a challenge and see their efforts pay off.

Jill’s Journey in Business Development

Jill shares that she “fell into this career” thanks to a past colleague’s recommendation. The irony? Her professional journey began at a temporary agency over 30 years ago. Through building relationships, being genuine, and staying true to her values, Jill has navigated her career through several acquisitions over her 24 years at ALTA IT.

Challenges in the Industry

Jill faces normal competition and the challenge of working with clients who may not fully understand the market. She emphasizes the importance of understanding employment trends and acting quickly, as top talent is often not on the market for long.

  • Enjoyability and enthusiasm
  • Honesty and transparency
  • Flexibility and creativity
  • Preparation and organization

Why Consider a Career as a Business Development Manager?

A BDM plays a pivotal role in driving business growth and improving operations. This dynamic career involves identifying new opportunities, developing strategies, and building relationships with clients and partners. Career And Pay Outlook

The career outlook for BDMs is promising. Job search engines like Zippia indicate an even higher growth rate specifically for BDMs, estimating a 10% increase from 2018 to 2028. Furthermore, the median annual salary for sales managers, which can include BDMs, was $132,290 in May 2020. Their compensation is a mix of base salary, commission on sales, and potential bonuses, with top earners exceeding $200,000. [BLS salary data for sales managers].
